Promoting Justice Through Education In Dominican Republic
Education Equality
The unfortunate truth is the youth in Dominican don't just struggle with poverty but also face educational issues which include overcrowded classrooms, lack of resources, poor-quality facilities and outdated curriculums to say the least. This setting is a challenge and most youth can't afford to stick around. We also have noticed the need for a library because literacy is not promoted as a result the youth lack knowledge and information. Inside the classrooms there is lack of positive attitude among teachers and teachers pay has decreased causing the teachers to lack interest. With limited support or none at all the youth & community struggle. Our goal is to keep the youth away from prostitution and from committing crimes through providing mentoring and education opportunities. Starting with one student, one community at a time.
NIE MENTORS YOUTH GLOBALLY
NIE has been serving the Caribbean Nation since 2018. Our mentors serve some of the most at-risk communities in the region. Due to drastic income inequality, 32% of the population lives below the poverty line of $5.50 per day. NIE's mentors provide workshops, classes and trainings that teaches life skills and foster leadership and commitment. Mentees also receive ongoing mentorship and education they will use for life.
